AOP previews the future of opera with an evening of scenes developed during AOP's latest season of Composers & the Voice, a Brooklyn-based fellowship training program that has launched the careers of some of today's top opera creators. Bringing Mabel Dodge Luhan to Life through Opera

In coordination with exhibit Mabel Dodge Luhan & Company: American Moderns and the West, composer and librettist Nell Shaw Cohen sheds light on the process of creating her new chamber opera, Mabel's Call, which follows Mabel Dodge Luhan's journey of self-reinvention during her early years in Taos. A talk by the composer will accompany this concert of several scenes and arias from the opera-in-progress. Soprano Shelley Jackson will sing the role of Mabel Dodge Luhan with tenor André García-Nuthmann as Maurice Sterne and baritone Carlos Archuleta as Tony Lujan, accompanied by music director Kristin Ditlow on piano. Boston GuitarFest X: Young Guitarists Workshop Faculty Recital
As part of the tenth annual Boston GuitarFest, the Young Guitarists Workshop Faculty (Adam Levin, Will Riley, Devin Ulibarri, and Colin Thurmond) will be premiering Wanderlust for guitar quartet (13 1/2 minutes), which they commissioned for this occasion. Devin Ulibarri will also be reprising Triptych (2011), a solo work (7 minutes).

On the first concert of this series dedicated to presenting new works by current NYU graduate students, tenor Tyler Lee and pianist Alice Hargrove will be previewing an excerpt from my one-act monodrama The Coming of Spring, which will be accompanied by a video projection. Rodriguez's performance will include Horizon (which he is co-premiering with Karlos Rodrigeuz, who performs on November 9), which I've composed specially for this occasion. I wrote Horizon to celebrate and reflect on the aesthetic quality of the Parrish's building and the surrounding landscape.
